Shantou International Container Terminals (SICT), which commenced operations in 1997, is located in the Shantou Special Economic Zone of Guangdong Province. The facility lies 180 nautical miles northeast of Hong Kong and 100 nautical miles west of Xiamen in Fujian Province.
It is well-connected by road and rail to all areas of Guangdong, Fujian and nearby provinces. The Shenzhen-Shantou Expressway and the Shantou-Fenshuiguan Expressway link up Shantou, Shenzhen and Xiamen, and a rail line connects Shantou to Guangzhou and the arterial route linking Hong Kong and Beijing.
The commissioning of SICT revolutionised shipping along this stretch of the China coast, for the first time bringing world-class facilities to the area. The dedicated terminal offers a wide range of services and facilities, including import-bonded and export-surveillance warehousing, container repairs, as well as the ability to handle reefer and dangerous cargo containers. On-site customs and joint inspection services as well as X-ray container inspection services are also available.
SICT now boasts numerous shipping routes to Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia and continues to develop its intra-Asia routes. |
