Harwich International Port (HWH) is one of the UK's leading multi-purpose freight and passenger ports. It benefits from excellent road and rail links to the Midlands, London and the Southeast. It is ideally located for North Sea freight and passenger traffic to and from Scandinavia and the Benelux countries, offering first-class ro-ro, ferry, container and bulk operations.
HWH has plans to greatly extend its container-handling facilities. The development of a new deep-water container terminal at Bathside Bay in Harwich will create 1.4 kilometres of quayside, with a depth of 15 metres alongside. Moreover, the Harwich International Container Terminal scheme will make it one of the largest container ports in the UK, almost doubling the total quay length to three kilometres, and enabling the port to handle up to four deep-sea container vessels simultaneously. |
