Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Gaolan) (ZICT(G)) is located on the Nanshui River, southwest of the city of Zhuhai, some 45 nautical miles from Hong Kong. It is the only natural deep-water port in the western Pearl River Delta region.
ZICT(G), which commenced operations in 1994, offers excellent road and river connections and benefits from its close proximity to the Xijiang River, which enables cargo from the hinterland to be conveniently barged to the port.
As a port with both container and general cargo facilities, ZICT(G) offers considerable potential as a key shipping hub for southwest China. Its Phase II project, involves the construction of two 50,000-tonne container berths with a total quay length of 824 metres and a depth alongside of 15.8 metres. The first berth has been operational since December 2008 and the second berth will commence operations in August 2009. |
